It's not just for Catholic's anymore

I had to laugh last night as I read an article about the new town Ave Maria. Last year was the first I had heard of it and at that time it was being advertised as a town in Florida for Catholics only. It was to be a town based on the strictest Catholic principles. The center of the town is a huge catholic church encircled by the town's streets. There will be no birth control, premarital sex, x-rated television, or pornography allowed.

Well, it seems that the plan had a slight glitch. You see, discrimination is not allowed in our country. The founder (founder of Domino's) didn't realize this until he was threatened with lawsuits by the ACLU. So, now he's quickly trying to backpedal and pretend that the town is for everyone. HA!HA!

After reading this, a few scenarios ran through my mind. What if a large number of atheists decided to move into town (that is if they could tolerate living on a street named John Paul II & all the stupid little rules that have been imposed on the townspeople:<)? Would we be allowed to build our own building for meetings? After all, he claims that any "denomination" (yes, I realize atheism is not a religion...but atheists should have the right to a meeting place) is allowed. I wonder if what he really means is any CHRISTIAN denomination....I tend to think so.

Another thing that occurred to me is the fact that if he were allowed to make this an entirely Catholic town based on Catholic principles, it would be a GREAT sociological experiment. Current statistics suggest that higher crime rates are found in the more conservative areas of the country. I would be curious to see what would happen as the population of this town grew. I would also be curious to see statistics regarding teen pregnancies, abortion, drug use, and all the other no-no's for good little Catholics.

Property doesn't seem to be selling too quickly. However, he is building a Catholic University there so population may grow as that gets established. It will be interesting to see what happens.
